Tips for managing large libraries? particularly with lightroom

I'm reconciling all of my photos right now and I'm realizing just how much I have. I purchased a new computer with a lot of space but at the rate I'm going, I'm going to fill it up soon. Anyone have tips on how to manage a large library while still having it be manageable and not involve a lot of hoops to jump through?Ideas I had were1) to segment the library into multiple catalogs (maybe by year?) and throw each one on to a separate thumb drive. But I'm not sure how those read/writes are and it also seems like it might be a pain. 2) just have one main catalog and then a backup with all the previous years, but I'm not sure how easy it is to transfer stuff from catalog to catalog. via /r/photography http://ift.tt/2nKW6Ob
