Tripods - At what point do we hit diminishing returns?

I'm wanting to pick up a nice tripod for landscape work. It needs to be somewhat light and compact for travel use, but it also has to be solid. I've looked in to RRS and Gitzo, but what about the other ones? Fiesol, Benro, Manfrotto, etc. Do we eventually hit a point of diminishing returns in tripods, or is this more or less a buy-once-cry-once situation? via /r/photography http://ift.tt/2wSbYSB
