What is the law regarding the use of social media photographs and or posts by print media?

Hey everyone. Does anyone know what the law in California (just to be specific) is regarding a print media company being able to use photos and or "screenshots" that show photos and comments in their own publications without explicit consent of the author/photographer? via /r/photography http://ift.tt/2xfoHk7
