Looking for a LOT of advice for an upcoming Europe trip!

Hi all! So like I said in the title, I’m looking for a lot of help in this post, which is why I didn’t just put it in the question thread. This fall, I will be studying aboard in Europe, and will of course be bringing my camera with me! I’m a pretty amateur photographer, been shooting about a year, so I have a lot of questions that I am hoping that people here can help me with.First off, I’m using a Nikon D3400 and have the basic kit lens, the Nikkor 50mm 1.4, and the Nikkor 35mm 1.8. Would anyone have suggestions about gear to add/bring? Please keep in mind that I am a broke college student and that I am also looking to travel very light around Europe. As far a lenses go, I’ve been considering picking up a 28-70mm 2.8, as a general purpose lens. However, I also think I may want a wide angle to get certain shots. In addition, what other gear would you consider essential? I don’t really want to be carrying a tripod with me, but I know it is necessary for some shots. I have been using one of the small tripods with the flexible legs, and it seems like it’d be a worthy inclusion. Tips on a good camera bag would also be appreciated, or whether you think it would be worth it to invest in one at all! Some of the shots I know I’ll be wanting are the city, street, and riverscapes that you always see of Venice and Rome and the other cities with just breathtaking architecture and views. I also hope to do a lot of portrait photography in Europe, so tips about that would be appreciated too. Another area that I definitely am looking help with is the northern lights. It’s near the top of my list to make it out to Iceland and see the aurora borealis. I know my budget and hardware limitations are going to make it hard to get a perfect shot here, but can anyone give me any advice on the lens and setup up I would use to get such a shot? If anymore has experience in this area, I would love to hear from you! Also, my program is located in London, so I will probably be spending the majority of my time there.I am also looking for suggestions about specific places to travel to and opportunities for cool shots. Honestly, any help with anything photography, Europe, or travel related would mean so much to me. Thank you to any and everyone that can take the time to address any of my questions, I truly appreciate it! via /r/photography https://ift.tt/2kFq6sL
