Backpack review: Peakdesign Everyday Backpack 30L vs WANDRD PRVKE 31L

Hey there, since I was trying to find the perfect camera backpack for a while I figured I tell you what I learned so far. I hope my english is ok, I‘m from Austria so I‘m not on a native level :)The most important thing for me was that I could find a backpack I could load from the top and from the side. Also I wanted something that‘s not only for photography gear, but for everyday stuff (jackets, shirts, laptop, kindle, food etc.) as well. I go hiking quite often so the camera had to be removable without first unpacking my spare cloths and other stuff. That really narrowed the search down to a handfull of bags. I looked into some THULE bags, but the quality was not really impressive. Then I saw the WANDRD PRVKE kickstarter video and really wanted to buy it. But on check-out (after adding taxes and shipping) it was just to expensive for me (I think it was more than 400$ for the photography bundle). So I bought the Everyday Backp for around 300€ at a local photography store.Peakdesign Everyday Backpack Since it was my first real camera bag (before I only had a cube) I really liked it a lot. I removed one of the dividers completly, the rest I put in the bag so I could fit in my DSLR with a small lense (like a 24mm pancake) on it, a 50mm, a wide angle and a 70-30mm zoom lens. The side pockets could hold my second battery, spare SD cards, chargers etc. Via the top opening I could easily fit a jacket and some other stuff (even grocery items weren’t a problem). What I didnt like about the backpack was that it isn‘t fully water proofed and that I couldn‘t just easily remove all of my camera gear at once. The other downside (and that was the main reason I got another backpack) was, that the fully loaded backpack really hurt my shoulders after 3+ hours of carrying. The last few weeks I‘ve been in Canada and I had the bag on me every day, all day. My shoulders started to hurt really bad. Luckily I found the WANDRD bag in a photography store in Whistler (in exactly the configuration I wanted).WANDRD PRVKE As I came back to my Airbnb I quickly transitioned all my stuff from one bag to the other. On the next day I went for a 4h hike. While my shoulders still hurt a bit, I immediately noticed a difference. The backpack fits me really good, it has plenty of space for the same equipment (but has a removable camera cube, which is really a plus) and it has nearly the same space for jackets, food etc. (maybe it‘s a bit less, since the cube is a little big). The other day I got on a boat and I was really glad it had a rain cover as well. The only downside I see on this bag is, that it doesn’t have a lot of pockets for smaller stuff. I had to buy a small pouch for all my cables and put it in the main department.Over all I would recommend the PRVKE over the Everyday Backpack. Since they are both pretty expensive the price doesn‘t effect my decision that much, I don‘t really think one is prettier than the other so all comes down to functionality. I hope my comparison was helpfull for some of you. I‘m also happy to answer any questions you have regarding those two backpacks and I‘m selling the Peakdesing one if anybody is interested :PCheers! via /r/photography https://ift.tt/2wxdBp0

  1. Nice! Thanks for this. I've been looking for camera bags as well. I actually saw one about water proof camera bags and I think it's great too. I'll definitely check out this one too.
