what are your thoughts on camera skins?

I managed to get a little ding on my lens which bugs me slightly but didn’t know if putting a skin is even worth it.Obviously my gear will show use after time but are skins even worth it? Do they increase the chance of overheating?Haven’t found any brands in the US that sells them via /r/photography http://bit.ly/2HJx64m
