Fixing white on white shots

We had a photo shoot for our store merchandise (jackets) recently and we use a white background (per request of the photographer). Problem is that he is unable to properly take white on white shots. The white jackets just disappear into the background, and the jackets are overexposed so they lose their texture. He once "fixed" this issue by using a black backdrop behind white coats which came out striking to the eye and odd, plus doesn't fit well when viewing all listings side-by-side on the webpage. If I request the original RAW shots, is there data that someone knowledgeable of lightroom could use to make the photos salvageable? Or if they weren't set up with correct shadows in the first place, then is there no correct data (texture; distinguishing lines) in the RAW image that even exists? via /r/photography https://ift.tt/35liUYU
