There are several tutorials online that detail using a mirror ball (and an iPhone even!) for doing HDRI photography (for use as image-based lighting in 3D software) - spherical photos that capture several EV light brackets. https://ift.tt/2o94QAL and https://ift.tt/2oXAsdf recently discovered lensballs while trying to find a safe way to mount my large shiny steel bearing ball to a tripod. The bottlecap technique isn't stable enough and discovered there are special ball mounts. It seems that lensballs do not have the problem that mirror balls do, where the photographer would show up in the center of the photo.. I am curious if I may be missing something abut the difference in light capture in the two types of balls (my lensballs will arrive in the mail shortly). via /r/photography https://ift.tt/2obZSn2
