Is anyone familiar with a good Tether Tools laptop table substitute?

I'm in need of a tripod mountable laptop table, and while I'm used to getting robbed on odds and ends, $270 CAD for a pressed piece of metal with an optional $30 anti-slip pad rubs me the wrong way.
