Canon is in big trouble. The eye detect AF worked better on the Samyang, the camera detected subjects faster and more accurately(this really surprised me), the lens is significantly lighter and not nearly as bulky, and weather sealing is noticeably thicker. Just about the only thing the Canon had going for it over the Samyang was the stabilization in the lens(but this isn’t a big deal since you still have IBIS if you’re using the R6, like myself, or the R5), and the vignetting was definitely much more noticeable on the Samyang.Unless you just desperately need that f/1.2 over the f/1.4(in my opinion, honestly not a big enough difference to justify the price difference) or if you really need that additional three stops of stabilization, I can’t find any reason to justify the price of the Canon 85mm f/1.2 when the Samyang 85mm f/1.4 works so well and is less than a quarter of the price.I used both in similar scenarios, being low light and in busy environments where my subject was moving a lot and often would have other people cross in front of them, and I would pick the Samyang every time based on the significantly light weight and smaller overall size, as well as how well it works with Canon’s AF.If Samyang keeps putting out AF lenses this good for the RF mount, Tamron and Sigma are going to have a tough time catching up, and Canon’s high prices for their top glass are going to continue to look more and more unreasonable than they already do. via /r/photography https://ift.tt/3xuJdbZ
