First off, let me say that I realise this is an entirely subjective topic. I’m actually quite happy with my (now quite old) gear and the photos I can produce, but I’d like to hear about other people’s personal experiences when it comes to the equipment they use. I’d love to hear from people who have perhaps been shooting professionally for a while and have faced the same dilemma. Have you upgraded? Are you glad you did? If you haven’t upgraded, why not?Basically, I had my own sideline photography business up until 2017. My passion was concert photography, but any income I made was generally from weddings and portraits. In 2017, I moved country, I got a different day job, and a lot of time has been taken up with kids and family. Photography was put on the back burner. I’m now at a point where I’d quite like to start things up again, and I suppose I’m just curious to know how people feel the landscape has changed over the last several years.I’ve been more or less completely out the loop when it comes to cameras and any advancements made in technology. I have a couple of 5D Mk.IIs that I use, which were already last-gen in 2017. Do people feel that newer models are significantly better? I’ve always placed greater importance on lenses rather than camera bodies, and I still have my lenses, so I’d be reluctant to spend a lot on upgrades unless the advantages were something truly special. I’m also vaguely aware that mirrorless bodies have become a big thing. Is that something folks would recommend?Ultimately, because I’ve moved country, I’ll be starting the business from scratch regardless. Any changes I make to my gear will need to come gradually, but I’d love to hear your thoughts / feelings / opinions / rants about the subject.
