Missing photo opportunities because you were recording video.

Ive had this problem more times then i want to admit. For example im at a car meet and say all the cars are on their way out, speeding and revving engines and what not. Im recording them all speed off, and off course am presented with countless photographic opportunites while im recording, but at the same time, if i were shooting pics, id have countless opportunities to be recording something. Now i personally have a shit camera, so I wouldn't know if those of you with more expensive equipment (say an a7r3 for example) still have this problem, or if you can flawlessy extract frames from your video to use as photos. How do you guys deal with this? What would you suggest?
