Advice when photographing in "sketchy" areas?

So let me just get this out of the way right now: Yes, obviously the best thing to do when photographing in the city is to stay safe. However, there are some instances where I'll just accidentally wander too far from where I started and end up in a bad part of town. And, unfortunately, sometimes these areas have a lot to offer photo-wise.Graffiti, overgrowth, old architecture... these are the sorts of things I'm drawn to in one way or another.A little about me: I'm a news photographer. I'm often put in these neighborhoods as part of my job. However, I also wear a uniform, and have logos all over my equipment and vehicle. 90% of the time, people will leave me alone. But when I'm not at work, I just look like a normal dude wandering around with a camera. So, any advice when it comes to being in a sketchy part of town? I recently passed an abandoned Coca-Cola factory that I want to take photos of, but I'm worried about getting shot/mugged... via /r/photography http://bit.ly/2Lo4C3M
