TL;DR I'm going on a trip with lots of incredible photography opportunities, and want to take the best photos I can without having to spend a bunch of time editing when I get back. I'm caught between the practicality of choosing to bring a digital camera, and the love I always have for the photos that my film camera takes. Which one is the right choice?I'm an amateur photographer, and I'm super excited to take photos of the beautiful environment and my peers during a 3 month backpacking/environmental work trip I'm leaving for in 2 weeks. However, I'm incredibly torn between taking a digital or a film camera, and can't figure out how to make the right choice. In terms of my personal preferences: I took up photography for it's ability to capture memories and help me see my life as more beautiful-- I obviously care about the photos being creative/good looking, but I really dislike spending time on post-processing because that takes away from the time that I'm actually out in the world enjoying my life. Because of this, I've come to really love film photography, since they immediately come out so gorgeous and don't need any editing to make them have that magical, larger than life feeling. It's hard for me to be excited to take a photo when I know that that means signing myself up for time stuck in my room editing later on (if I want it to turn out well), which usually seems to be the case with digital photos I take. However, I know that digital cameras (in particular the Fujifilm X-T30, X-S10, or X100V, the ones I'm looking at buying) have a lot of advantages that would allow me to have a higher percentage of successful photos, since they have things like HDR, raw, IBIS, and just because I wouldn't have to stick with one ISO or film type for a whole roll. Also, I'd be able to take more photos since I wouldn't be limited by how many rolls I can take with me in my backpacking pack.I'm really worried that if I choose to take a digital camera, I'll end up regretting it because the photos won't come out as much to my liking or feel as special to me, and I'll end up being weighed down by the hours upon hours of editing I'd need to do to attempt to get them to a place where they do make me happy. Even so, it feels foolish bringing my film camera when I could potentially miss out on/screw up some good shots simply because of the many limitations of film.Do any photography pros (or amateurs like me) have any advice on what would be the overall wiser choice here? This is a once in a lifetime opportunity for me, and I really want to be able to take the best photos I can.Thank you so so much for reading!! Any advice is incredibly appreciated! via /r/photography https://ift.tt/3Dq70OD
