need a camera lens
Hey guys!Quick questions. I have a Sony A6000 and want to get a lens that will be able to take a group picture. I work at a middle school and I’m going to need to take pictures of our home rooms for our yearbook course. I currently have the 16mm-50mm lens and the 55mm-210mm lenses that I bought as a bundle. Any ideas or am I good with those? via /r/photography http://bit.ly/2GdblJP

My Mother Is Wonderful And I Need Some Suggestions For A Gift Photography Related!
I have a great great mom (I am sure you have one too) and I want to gift her something nice for her birthday. She used to take photographs when she was a teenager but now she doesn't take many photos. In fact she is the one who took nearly all of my childhood photos. Can you all good people suggest me some good innovative gifts that I can give her.Just to give you guys some information to work on, I have a very small budget. Less than $200 maybe. And my mom loves things which are hand-made rather than things which are store bought. I though of buying her an old film camera at first but later decided to get some brain power behind this decision before i finally settle for something.Any suggestion is welcome. Thanks guys! via /r/photography http://bit.ly/2SgKsv6
[Question] Does anyone know the specific name of this clamp
Adam Savage was using this clamp and I was wondering if it would be possible to purchase it without having to purchase an entire C-Stand. If anyone knows where to purchase one of these or even the name of it so I can search myself I would be extremely appreciative.http://bit.ly/2sVV4kE via /r/photography http://bit.ly/2sYj1aZ
How much should I charge my friend?
So hi. My friend is a woodworker and asked me to do finished product shot for him to use as ads for his pieces. We are planing to take some pieces out into the pines and gets some cool “earthy” shots. Photography is my side hustle so I don’t need the money necessarily BUT this sounds like a rather time consuming thing. Travel, help load, travel again, shoot, creative direction, load it all back up, edit, and deliver files for web, IG, and FB.I thinking simply 20$ per item I shoot but I really don’t know. Trying to find photo of Toronto from last year
Hi, sometime before fall of 2018, I found a post on r/toronto (I think) of a picture someone had taken. It was absolutely breathtaking. The photo was of the CN Tower from across the water, and represented each of the four seasons. I had my heart set on having a four panel piece printed of it, as it went from (iirc) Winter, Spring, Summer, and Fall in equal parts right to left. Honestly, I can't describe how incredibly beautiful it was, and I had actually saved it to my hard disk. Since then, I've updated my desktop since a lot of the parts from a time before I was in very poor financial straits, but during the process, the pins on the data connection on the disk in question were damaged. I cannot get a solid connection, which has barred me from accessing nearly 3TB of data. I've been looking for ways to fix it, and looked at potentially taking it in to be repaired professionally. I've even looked at buying a new PCB entirely and doing a DIY job, but I haven't acted on any of it. Honestly, I can live without a great deal of the data on that drive, but that photo means more to me than exists vocabulary to explain. I've tried googling it, I've scoured reddit, and I definitely saved the picture on my reddit account, but apparently there's a limit on how many things can be saved, so it's not there. I cannot possibly be the only person to have fallen in love with this photo, so if anyone has it, or has a link to the post in reference, I'd be extraordinariy grateful for some help here.I've experienced a lot of pain in this city. Almost nothing but loss and regret, and I resent this place for it. I can't go anywhere without being reminded of some terrible event at the hands of my family, or from when I was homeless. The one thing I that gave me some pleasure is how beautiful this place is, and this photo that I'm looking for truly incapsulates and immortalizes Toronto's splendor. Thanks in advance to you all. via /r/photography http://bit.ly/2MIxsJh
Looking for indoor lighting advice
I’ve done a lot of photography (technically made a living with it for many years), but not much in the way of artificial lighting. I’m going to have to start photographing some items on a regular basis. I’ll save all the boring details… They’re basically thin tubes about 6 feet long. They need to be shot vertically, and I need to be able to put a scenic background behind them in processing. This could be done outside, but traveling to a location is a pain. Inside would be much easier. Problem is, we only have a standard height room, that gives maybe 15 feet of horizontal space. I'm not sure that's enough space to pull back.So I wanted to see what people think, before I waste a bunch of time and money, just to find out it won't work this way. The less money we have to spend on equipment, the better. I don't think we have enough natural light to do it that way. There would have to be some lighting purchased. Any recommendations on that are welcome. via /r/photography http://bit.ly/2FYQudV

Which is better, Display P3 or Adobe RGB monitor?
I capture images in RAW most of the time and I'm planning to buy a monitor with either of the two combination:100% Display P3 coverage + 100% sRGB coverage100% Adobe RGB coverage + 100% sRGB coverageI'm leaning towards option 1 as I have an iPhone X which natively supports 100% Display P3 and all my images are viewed and further edited on my iPhone X.What do you all recommend? via /r/photography http://bit.ly/2TnCP3l

Framing a rather large print, and quite lost.
My brother gifted me a very large print of the Minneapolis skyline, coming in at 36x24. I'm not sure how best to frame it, and after skimming a dozen articles and many posts here on best practices for mat and frame color/width, I'm comfortable saying that I'm more lost than when I started.I have a modern/industrial loft with high ceilings, white walls, a lot of stainless steel and concrete. I'd love some ideas from the community here. Would this size and type of print benefit from a certain treatment?http://bit.ly/2BaWi06 via /r/photography http://bit.ly/2TjZEVf

Discussion: Soft Filter Practical Effects, Photographers, Techniques, and Specific Filter Examples
My goal here is to mine the collective wisdom of r/photography to create a good list of:Soft Filter photographersSpecific examples of filters’ effects…to achieve 3 objectives:Create a reference for the type of work being done with soft filtersA clear idea of what filters do what with clear image or video examplesCreate a source of inspiration and discussion for photographers interested in this kind of stuffFor my purposes here, by “soft filter,” I mean: filters or filtering techniques that effect any one or more of the following (or other similar effects):Resolution reductionContrast reductionHalationHighlight roll-offWhat motivated me to start this list and discussion:I’ve been a fan of Petra’s look for a while nowI’ve been increasingly editing my photos for a flatter lookContrast reducing reducing filters help me achieve what I do in editing now, in camera, and this led me down the rabbit hole of looking at filter-based practical effects for contrast and optical resolution reductionI wanted to share some of the fruits of my labor from 3 (above)Please add photographers and demonstrations / examples of specific filters to this post if you’d like to contribute.Edit: * I'm mostly interested in portrait photographers but I'd like to see insight across all genres. * I'm also interested in experiences with different types of star-filters for portrait photography use and if you got/used one, were happy with it, or went to a different option.Photographers who shoot soft filter:Kristina VaraksinaInstagram: http://bit.ly/2DM5lGx http://bit.ly/2Upri3i CollinsInstagram: http://bit.ly/2DL23Dc http://bit.ly/2UpriAk Examples of Effects of Specific Filters:Lee Soft Focus (later in the video)https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HC98r_-lHJATiffen Black Satin 3https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RW6HGUmHausTiffen Pearlescent, Antique Suede, Black Pro Misthttps://http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RW6HGUmHausAll of Tiffen’s Filters (official Tiffen video)https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rJacZa6QpJ8&t=783sTiffen Black Pro Misthttps://http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZIr4PFO-K1Y via /r/photography http://bit.ly/2DJePCi
