how to point out what makes the picture good?

hi all, i'm just recently interested in photography, particularly the historical aspect. i ve been using the book History of Photography by Beaumont Newhall as guidance for going thru influential figures' works (Stieglitz - Atget - Steichen - Cartier-Bresson -...). however, my extend of understanding a photo so far stops at lingering at the picture and think "this is good" with no deeper elaboration on form, composition, tone and all that. what resources should i go thru to educate myself and be able to pinpoint the aspect(s) of the picture that make it high quality? thanks a lot. via /r/photography https://ift.tt/2W36pPO
